Howard
Howard is from a farming background – the famous vet, Alf Wight ( James Herriot ) used to be the vet for the family farm.
A former police officer in North Yorkshire, he has lived and worked throughout Yorkshire all his life.
After completing 30 years service in the police, he became a Tour guide in 2012.
He set up The Yorkshire Tour Guide to share his passion of Yorkshire with guests from around the world.
Describing himself as a ‘ people person ‘ – he says ‘ Our aim is to enhance the guest’s holiday experience, create memories and give them the best time in Yorkshire we possibly can ‘.
Alan
Born and bred in Yorkshire, Alan is from a farming background and has lived in the area all his life.
Howard and Alan have known each other for over ten years and work very well together,
Alan is a crucial part of the team as he supplies and maintains the vehicles.
He runs a number of companies from his local base at Thirsk.
He loves showing people round Yorkshire – local knowledge being the key.
Very much a people person, he has a keen interest in local history.
He brings plenty of Yorkshire humour to the day and gives valuable insight into what it’s like to live and work in this beautiful part of the world.
John
John has lived and worked in the York area since 1979.
He too is a former police officer with 30 years service and has been involved in the investigation of several high profile cases.
John has an avid interest in history so what better place than York to share his passion with the discerning traveller and highlight to them the beautiful city of York and its surrounding area.
Matt
Matt was born and brought up in Yorkshire, spent most of his life in the county and has lived in York since 1998. He studied at the University of Manchester and the University of Durham and has over 30 years experience in international education as trainer and manager. He spent 25 years working at the University of York, most recently as Head of York Courses.
He has also worked in numerous countries overseas and travelled extensively around the world for both work and pleasure.
He feels his long experience of welcoming visitors to York and travelling overseas make him ideally suited to being a tour guide. He loves showing guests round his city and helping them to discover where the locals go!
Shaun
Shaun is a very experienced tour guide – he first started this role in 2011 after retiring from 33 years service in the military and police.
He was born in the city and is very proud of his Yorkshire roots. He has an infectious sense of humour, which always makes for a relaxed and entertaining tour.
Although history forms the basis of your experience with him, he is always happy to chat about any topic that takes your interest, whilst taking in the wonderful sights and sounds of the area.
